So this anthology that I’ve been working on with a bunch of dope folks for the past 6 months is coming to fruition. Last night, we got our proof of it back from the printers, and now we’re fully jumping into printing our first run of 250 copies. This is the first book I’ve ever worked on publishing before, and it is a complete labor of love (and self-published, which means we did EVERYTHING except for the actual printing and binding, which we would have done too except time constraints and money).

The anthology is titled Namjai: A Tribute to Bay Area API Poets, and contains work by over 30 poets who have called the Bay Area home at one point or another. The release party, in Oakland on February 23, will have more than half of the poets in attendance and reading their works, as well as food, music, and artwork.

Y’all I’ve been working with some rad people to manifest this much needed event here at Portland State University in Portland Oregon. If you could network the shit out of our poster. Maybe even trek to Portland from your nearby cities to join us is would mean a lot!

More Than Two Monologues was created in order to highlight the varied experiences of trans* and gender nonconforming folks. Our narratives are regularly invisibilized, silenced, and shamed. We believe that through sharing our narratives we can build a community of resistance!

Currently our cast is not representative of our community in it’s entirety. Though we have many exceptional voices who have agreed to share their stories we are lacking POC voices. Do you know someone who would be interested in getting involved? It’s not too late to join our cast!

I sat down with Daniela shortly after the conclusion of the POC Zine Project’s 2012 ‘Meet Me at the Race Riot’ tour to find out what role zines can play in increasing people of color’s political power.

“In each of the fourteen cities, we kept hearing similar messages,” she says. “‘This needed to happen,’ and ‘I’ve been looking for something like this.’ What they’re talking about isn’t about the zines, it’s about community. It’s about finding spaces where you don’t feel silenced, where your thoughts and feelings matter.”

The theme for the upcoming issue #5 (Spring, 13’) of my fanzine Muchacha is “Brown Queen: Latina Voices of the 21^st Century”. I am calling out to Latina/Chicana/Hispanic identified women worldwide to contribute their voices though an array of mediums including poetry, essays, art, comics, etc. I want this issue to serve as a time capsule for future generations of Brown women. Let our voices be heard and let us pick up the pieces and continue the lessons of our foremothers. As Gloria Anzaldúa brilliantly said: “I will no longer be made to feel ashamed of existing. I will have my voice: Indian, Spanish, white. I will have my serpent’s tongue - my woman’s voice, my sexual voice, my poet’s voice. I will overcome the tradition of silence.”

Dari Project is a volunteer-led, grassroots organization that develops resources to increase awareness and acceptance of LGBTQ people of Korean descent in Korean American communities.

Dari Project seeks to build bridges among Korean American families, social networks, institutions and faith communities by documenting and sharing the life stories of LGBTQ Koreans.

Since its inception in 2006, the Dari Project leadership has dreamed of publishing the first collection of personal narratives of LGBTQ Koreans as a bilingual resource for LGBTQ Koreans and their friends and families, and they’re so close to making this dream a reality!

They’ve solicited 27 stories from members of their community, which represent a wide range of experiences, including homo/bi/transphobia in Korean American communities, coming out as an LGBTQ person, building relationships with family, and membership in faith communities.

This publication is designed to provide young Korean Americans coming into LGBTQ identities with stories in which they can see their lives reflected and as a resource for Korean American families coming to terms with having LGBTQ children.

Thanks to some friends and supporters they’ve been able to get started, but they need your help to publish this collection as a bilingual print resource for our community.

Your generous contributions will help edit, translate, design, and print their stories as a book.

If they can make their goal of $7000, it will help make this book available for FREE to your friends, families, communities, and people you care about.
